In a tournament arc, a opponent that is so obviously more powerful than the protagonist, that the protagonist doesn't stand a chance. Except, the opponent is very lazy, and prefers to use the minimum amount of power possible to fight. Meaning that if the protagonist can open with a powerful enough strike and achieve a quick victory, they can win before the opponent goes full power.
Friend A and Friend B, total opposites. Friend A is naive and trusting of everybody, while Friend B is paranoid and suspicious of everyone. Friend A: It's because of Friend B being cautious for the both of us that I can afford to trust everyone. Friend B: I'm cautious of everyone so that Friend A will never have to lose their trusting nature.
Someone with extremely high regeneration lights uses highly destructive spells to destroy their enemies while barely surviving themselves.
A person looks down upon those who are direct with how they feel and what they say without reading the mood, but it is reading the mood that prevents this person from expressing themselves when they're hurt.
In a world where it's survival of the fittest, two people form an unlikely friendship. Person A is average in strength and speed. Forms friendship with Person B because Person B seems slower than Person A, so if the need comes, Person A can leave Person B behind for whoever is attacking. Person B is unclear how much strength they possess. They appear helpless and cute, the kind of person you'd want to protect. This is, of course, an act. Person B acts this way in the name of self-preservation, calling on others' protective instincts to have them fight on behalf of Person B.
Put the main character in a dress, with long hair and heels. Make them interested in fashion, makeup and flowers. Then, make them fall in love with a girl. By the end of the story, reveal that the main character was a guy all along.
Long-tailed Manakins take on a "bad" student to dance with them. This is a symbiotic relationship. The bad student's dancing makes the original Manakin look much better in comparison, and the bad student gets to learn to dance better. Imagine that but in a group performance.
Boyfriend and girlfriend, one of them is the main character whose POV the reader sees. MC believes that they are two halves of a whole, and is very dependent in their relationship. The other one, though, is of a healthier mindset and constantly tries to help MC become more independent. By the end, MC realizes that they are not two halves of a whole. Rather, they are two.
The red-eyed tree frog, when threatened, flashes its red eyes at predators to startle them. While the predator is startled, the frog uses this chance to run away. Imagine someone who casts an illusion magic to make their opponent see someone startling, like their mother, and then the caster uses this chance to disappear.
A hero who has a child but refuses to teach the child how to fight. After a couple years, when the child is finally grown up, the hero admits why they refuse to teach the child. "As a hero, it is my job to defeat the bad guys so that this place is safe for people like you to grow up and live in. If I teach you how to fight, it's like I'm admitting that no matter how much good I do, how many bad guys I defeat, it'll never be enough to make this place safe for you."
A loner archetype mercenary/monster hunter/assassin/etc., Actually works better in a team setting and is willing to work in teams, but still acts as an add-on rather than part of the team. Actively pushes others away but deep down is very lonely ~~ mysterious past that no one knows ~~  Turns out it's because he/she have powerful enemies and knew they'd catch him/her one day, and didn't want anyone to miss or try to avenge/save him/her.
A rumor of a monstrous person/creature living in a cave, where even the bravest and toughest of soldiers come running out, bloodied and bruised.  The hero goes in, and it's very dark. Even with a lamp, the hero can barely make out what's a few feet ahead. As the hero continues walking, whispers are echoing throughout the walls. The further in the hero goes, the more whispers there are and the louder they seem to get, until it's like they're screaming inside the hero's head.  There are also traps strewn around. Typical spike and boulder traps, but paired with the loud whispers, the hero is really put on edge. The hero is able to avoid them with relative ease.Gradually, the hero feels their heart rate spiking, their breathing more labored, and their vision seems to blur. The traps appear more frequently, and the hero is less able to avoid them like before. The hero finally makes it to the end, where there's an empty throne. The hero walks up to the throne, when s...
He doesn't listen to the rules. He lives in his own world- a world where down is up and black is white. He rejects the world around him and instead pulls those around him into his world - a world where the rules are dictated by him - until they no longer remember what was common sense. Until they've forgotten a world where left is not right and two is not five.

As children, the girl would often invite the attendant to play when they both didn't have any lessons or duties to attend to. One day, the girl unexpectedly had some time, so she went to surprise and invite the attendant. She went to the servants' quarters unannounced. Before she made her presence known, however, she heard shattering as well as yelling. She looks through a window and sees the attendant being beaten, a shattered teacup next to him. He is being scolded for serving the tea too slowly, how his performance must be absolutely perfect for the family. Scared, the rich girl runs back to her house. Privately, she discusses what she saw to her parents. However, her parents tell her that nobles don't show preference to any one servant, and that is just the way things are. Hearing this, the girl is practi...
Villain who acts all villain-y, but also shows a lot of empathy and compassion, to the point that they are obviously inherently a good person and not cut out to be a villain. Which then begs the question, why did they become a villain?
Cecilia rearrangement of I, Celica
A drunkard with water powers. The twist, though, is that the drunkard is not a drunkard. The drunkard actually just drinks a lot of water to stay hydrated but acts like a drunkard so people let their guard down.
A peaceful Healer ally who can fight a little, but is mostly a friendly healer. The band of protagonists comes across the Hero, the legendary warrior who stopped the psychotic killer in the past. The Hero recognizes the Healer, and asks to speak with the Protagonist. "Why do you have them on your team?" "Huh? Because they're a really good healer and a really good person." The Hero scoffs and proceeds to warn the Protagonist that the Healer is a dangerous person who's not to be trusted. The Healer overhears this and is bothered. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back then, the Healer was the Killer that the Hero had stopped. They'd been addicted to the thrill of murder, hearing the screams and splatters of the victims they killed. After the Hero stopped them, they were chased down deep into the mountains to survive alone, where they came across an isolated ...
In a world of powers, a strong, silent type whose power is assumed to be increased strength because of how strong they are. In the time of need, though, when the protagonist team is surrounded and about to be captured, it's revealed that the person's power is actually a supersonic scream.
Person with ice powers who prefers warm places and summers rather than cold places and winter. "My ice powers grant me resistance to the heat, but if it gets too cold, there's not much I can do about it."
