Villain who acts all villain-y, but also shows a lot of empathy and compassion, to the point that they are obviously inherently a good person and not cut out to be a villain. Which then begs the question, why did they become a villain?

The villain used to just be a normal person in a good family. They were raised to do good, and they always did their best. However, they did mess up from time to time. When they did, they were scolded harshly for not doing good and often shunned by people for having messed up. Villain had always tried to make amends, but sometimes people just aren't willing to let go of things.

The villain couldn't take it. No matter how hard they tried, they always seemed to mess up. The scolding and lack of forgiveness from those hurt slowly started to build up and up until the villain completely broke down and believed they were worthless and could never be a good person.

At that point, the villain decided that if they couldn't be a good person, the only thing they could do was become a bad person. They would have to become completely evil and unfeeling until all the guilt and despair tearing at them became too numb to hurt them.

They started to plan out how to hurt others, and began getting into dark circles. They made some shady friends, and started committing crimes. Optional: They also started dabbling in black magic. They were cutting themselves out of despair and pain anyway, so why not use that blood to cast forbidden magic like a villain would?

The problem was, they still had all the good morality and empathy inside of them, and they hated themself every time they couldn't bring themself to change, especially when their good nature led them to get hurt even more. The more villainess they tried and failed to be, the more their villainy fed into their guilt and despair, while their failure to be a proper villain brought out frustration and anger.
